Created by Ann Edwards, Chef & Sue is a cartoon starring Chef a scruffy little dog and Sue a well groomed ginger cat. They live somewhere in middle England, where Champagne is always on offer and shopping is a competitive sport. Chef and Sue is a gentle social satire with added Cheese jokes.
Their mission statement is to ‘Cheer the world’. Chef & Sue were finalists in the prestigious License This ! competition at Brand License Europe in 2014.
Chef & Sue appear in a cartoon comic strip in the Waitrose newspaper every week.
Content ranges from single strips to three panel strips. The strips are humour based with subjects such as food , drinks , partying , relationships and family life at the centre of them.
They are normally located on the ‘high traffic’ puzzle page.
The Waitrose ‘paper is distributed in all their stores and is free of charge c 100 000 copies per week in distribution.
Leading greetings card company Card Mix have signed to produce a full range of greetings cards based on the comic strips. Keith Gillespie, sales director at Card Mix commented at the time of signing “We are really excited by the tremendous commercial opportunity we see in Chef & Sue and can’t wait to bring this new range to market.”
Chef & Sue are natural for areas such as gifting , food gifting , wall art , stationery and publishing. They hold a strong appeal to mature Female consumers and benefit from weekly exposure in a major publication.
